It's very sad news to learn about a hockey teammate, coach or parent who has passed away. It happens in my community and hockey communities across the country every day. Reading the news articles about those young and old who have lost their life is heart wrenching. Their passion for the game and what they have contributed to the game stands out every time though. They should be recognized for that.
I've been wanting to do something about this for a few years now. I created a page on the TheHockeySeason.com site so that permanent memorials could be added. It's hard to approach someone to 'join' under the circumstances however. I have now turned to Facebook to have people share memorials about their loved hockey stars on the Hockey Memorial page. I encourage parents to include links to foundations that they have set up or support on behalf of a loved one. Hopefully the page will bring comfort to family and friends and become the central location for those who loved the game.
